Higher Economics
The Higher Economics course is split into 3 units:
- Economics of the Market – looks at the basic economic problem of scarcity and how that leads to choices and opportunity costs for individuals, firms and governments. It looks at allocation of resources and how demand and supply drives this.
- UK Economic Activity – analyses government income and expenditure in the UK and the role of the public and private sectors in the economy. It also assesses policies and other methods used by the UK government to achieve its economic aims.
- Global Economic Activity – explores the global nature of economics and focuses on global trade and its importance to the UK economy and the balance of payments. It examines the economic features and impacts of developing, emerging and developed economies and global institutions.
The course assessment has two components:
- Written Exam Paper – 90 marks worth 75% of the overall marks. 2 hours and 30 mins.
- Assignment – 30 marks worth 25% of the overall marks. 8 hours in class.
