Advanced Higher Physics
Physics helps us to understand the world around us, from the tiniest particles to the largest galaxies and everything in between. Physics opens doors to a large range of careers from cancer treatment to tackling climate change, gaming, robotics and artificial intelligence. Physics and physicists are helping to shape the future. Physics offers a vast range of career paths and not only in science and technology. Their problem-solving skills make physicists versatile and adaptable, so they also work in interesting places from engineering to finance. Have a look at the Institute of Physics Careers webpage and Step into Physics to find out where Physics could take you.
AH Physics covers the following 3 units:
- Astrophysics and Rotational Motion
- Quanta and Waves
- Electromagnetism
There is a combination of theory and practical work throughout the course. The AH Physics Project allows students to investigate a physics topic of their choice in more depth through gathering data from practicals, analysing results using Excel, and creating a final report write up. There may also be an opportunity to visit Heriot-Watt University Laboratories to complete some of this practical work.
Students must have achieved Higher Physics to progress to Advanced Higher.
